Giving blood at the Red Cross. Includes having the needle inserted.

Sorry about the weird borders. I'm still trying to figure out how to use iMovie.

  • Do you give whole blood? Our blood bank will not longer accept red blood cell products from women because we might have antibodies that cause adverse reactions. Now I just give platelets or plasma, which take a long time.

  • Yes, whole blood. They don't seem to care if you are male or female.

  • It definitely doesn't look like it hurt, that needle insertion looked really careful and not that painful. I really want to give blood. I've never had a huge fear of needles, just a big dislike for them as I'm fairly prone to feeling pain more than others and those needles are damn big needles! but I don't want that to stop me. You did an amazing thing.

  • I found the video reassuring until the end when you said "it hurt". If you ever make future video that are trying to persuade people to save lives, please dont say that. All the power to you though for being strong and posting this.

  • Thank you for your courage. As someone who has received blood, your gift is priceless.

  • my hemacrit red blood cell level was 46 and the machine that tested my iron level had the word HOT next to it, and i donated whole blood which only takes 10-15 minutes, my needle wasnt big, i always do my blood drives at school .

  • I never heard of a blood bank that will not accept whole blood 'because we might have antibodies" (on the red cells). Well, in the ABO-Rh compatability thing, the red cells contain the antigen and the plasma the antibodies. There are rare cases of incompatable sub-types but that's why we do type & cross (or type & screen).

    Find another blood bank!

  • Good for you! :)
