[STATEMENT]
We here by protest against the Yongsan slaughter!

January 20th of this year, at Area No. 4 Yong-san in Seoul, a murderous suppression incident caused by the state authorities, the so-called "Yong-san Tragedy"happened, in which 5 citizens and 1 police officer were killed.

Young-san district is currently at the brunt of the attack of President Lee Myung-bak's economic policies of trying to evade economic crisis by inflicting neo-liberalistic redevelopment plans.
The residents of Area No. 4 of Yong-san has been repeatedly demanding relocation measures to the local government since May 2006. The demands made by the residents were "to prepare substitute markets and commercial avenues by lease in order for them to be able to continue daily business during the redevelopment", and "to prepare temporary housing for the residents", and "to create a solid method of living instead of trying to solve matters with a small amount of compensation money."

We shall never forget the day January 20th, when we received the tragic news from Yong-san.
The head of the police department in Yong-san made a request to the Seoul local police department, to deploy the special police attack force, which is an anti-terrorist special task force. Under the command of Kim Sokki, Chief of Seoul Police Department at that time, 5 citizens and 1 police officer were killed during the police attack.
The state authority's answer towards the people who merely stood up for their right to live, was murder. Even now, after 5 months since the incident, there is not a hint of a solution to the situation, the government is still dodging responsibility, and even funerals of the victims are yet to be held.

Also in Japan, where we live, there is a similar heavy surge of forced eviction inflicted upon the people by state authority.
In Miyashita park located in Shibuya, Tokyo, Shibuya local government teamed up with global capilatist corporation, Nike Inc., and are about to launch their murderous forced eviction plans on the homeless people who reside in the park.

We cannot be silent anymore and let the state authorities take the lives of our friends.
Through the Yong-san incident, we can see the essence of the Lee Myung-bak government, which is "to repress whoever resists by violent force". Not only in Yong-san, but also starting with repression in public spaces, various repression on freedom of speech, labor movements, etc, invasion of freedom of assembly and association, the reinforcement of punishment, abuse of power and so on, we see that the Lee Myung-bak government is none other than a fascist government.

We strongly protest against the brutal acts of the Lee Myung-bak government!
We demand full apologies to the families of the victims of Yong-san, full accounting of the truth, and renunciation of forced eviction measures hereafter!
Down with neo-liberalism!
