feld72 transforms the public space of the High Street into a field of performance by adding the constituting elements of the Olympian world of spectacle.
The intervention is focussed on the performative aspects of the everyday, and the perception of social and spatial areas of transformation. The main elements comprise the creation of an absurd setting for an event without the event, shifting perception from the extra-ordinary to the ordinary:
The tribune transforming the High Street into a field of (sporting) performance.
The applause of a non-visible audience recreates a real stadium atmosphere.
The camera crew focuses their attention on specific aspects of the performance.
The video screen shows and re-plays important moments of the performance of the everyday.
The public on the High Street will oscillate between the role of the observer and the actor within public space, giving them possible short moments of auto-celebration or enabling their own perceptions of how to interact with specific spatial components within the public space of High Street.
A spectacle and a play with the poetics of the everyday, and an absurd transformation of the phenomena of overall surveillance of the city of London.
Like the Olympic Games itself, the Hyperlympics will transform space and time into exceptional circumstances, and in both cases Pierre De Coubertin words' should be the last ones: The most important thing is not the winning, but the taking part.
