The best way to keep weight off is you need to stay away from sugar.Refined simple sugars and foods that convert into sugars are bad and shuts down DNA and destroys DNA.Ultimately white simple processed sugar destroys,weakens,tears down the body and therefore you age at a accelerated rate.There is sugar in practically everything so YES YOU CAN BLAME THE FOOD COMPANIES FOR ALL THE UNNECESSARY SUGAR IN THE FOODS.

Nearly all diets =do= work, doctor. Most of them =do= give the very advice you give in that it is a life style change. Like you say, it's everyone's responsibility. The problem wasn't the diet they chose. The problem was they didn't follow through on the lifestyle change.
