I wouldn't say that women hitting men is accepted, It just isn't demonised as much as men hitting women. That and the men who are abused are seen as "weak and pathetic" by the justice system and police.

As far as i'm concerned, domestic violence that is perpetrated by either sex is not only illegal but morally reprehensible.
