It's not monster film.It's film about alien invasion(there are more monsters than one in it) and everything(overall atmosphere,commotion of people,military intervention,scale of destruction etc)proves the point.It's a unique film and for camera one,it's really good at that.It's never boring and camera shaking depicts nervousness of persons filming.They are running,being scared and they don't care about footage quality.It's recorded more as file/documentation-to be found after all ends,as memory

Wikipedia isn't really credible source for info,maybe you should know that as well.Monster film needs to be about one monster,the city is attacked by few of different ones!The scale of panic,destruction and military response is as if it's invasion!Something similar was done in The Myst film!The beings aren't familiar to people since they do have trouble destroying them.They had to resolve to total destruction(at very end of the film).

@BoxyTheSpaceDog Alien movie? I heard it was a animal that was contaminated by radiation (obviously cliche) and that it woke up once a bomb or something else disrupted its sleep.

I pretty much agree with what James says. I enjoyed the film and I really liked the way it was shot from the perspective of a person stuck in the middle of all of it. That made it different and interesting, but overall as a movie it wasn't that amazing. Probably worth a watch just to experience the feel of the film, but it's nothing to write home about. It didn't live up to the hype in any way at all. Although I was never interested in the hype at all when it was all going on.
