The Milwaukee Police Officer Support Team is there to help officers in the wake of critical incidents during their tour of duty. Currently, officers are dealing with the critical injury of one of their own, Officer Frank Vrtochnick. In the video, Lt. James MacGillis discusses how he is working with Frank's fellow officers and family.
Here is a synopsis of the events that led to his injury:
Milwaukee Police Officer Frank Vrtochnick was critically injured on Christmas night when he was struck outside of his squad by a driver who fled the scene. The incident occurred at 5:17 p.m. at 17th & Windlake when a vehicle driving toward the marked squad on the wrong side of the road jumped the curb and struck the uniformed officer who was attempting to get out of the way.
Officer Vrtochnick is currently in critical condition at a local hospital. He is assigned to District 2. He is 37 years old with 5 years of service. Milwaukee Police are seeking a dark colored mid-sized sedan, missing the passenger side mirror, with probable front end damage. Anyone with information is asked to call 414-935-7360.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer and his family at this difficult time, and we are appealing to the public to give us any information about this vehicle," said Milwaukee Police Chief Edward A. Flynn.
