"What is up with that crowd?" They know the differance between singing the song, singing the song and making it your own, and going overboard. I like Melissa, but like some artists sometimes do, they think they have to try to somehow overdue the original artist. There is and will only be 1 Janis. Her music can and always will stand on it's own...just sing the song. Don't change it, don't reinvent it. You want to honor Janis and her music? JUST SING THE SONG

@Desiree50able I was actually watching this in my bedroom at age 14 (I had almost simultaneously "discovered" the magic of both Janis and Melissa the year before) and my mom, who loved Janis (but to my knowledge never got to see her) called from the living room, "Is Janis on?" Now, of course, I can see the differences that make Melissa Melissa and Janis Janis, but Melissa will definitely be the closest I get to Janis. That said, I've seen ME maybe 8-9 times (every Denver concert since 1994).
