On Monday, Wednesday and Friday CSX would send freight cars to Homestead, pick up the empties and then take empty hoppers to the CSR Rinker Quarry past Krome Avenue. Afterwards they would pick up the filled cars of aggregate, collect the Homestead cars and bring everything back to the Hialeah Yard that evening. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, CSX only brought empty hoppers to the Rinker pit and return with filled ones. In 1996 the run would start about the same time each day, running past the airport around 11am. On a particular Tuesday in 1996 CSXT 5550 and 3094 leads a string of empty hoppers past the FEC interchange under the N.W. 7th Ave. overpass heading straight for the Krome Ave. Quarry. Transferred from Super 8mm footage.

  • I was just looking at Google maps and saw that FEC's tracks only go to 12th street now. They used to go to down to Kendall. They would bring a couple of cars to the lumber yard on Bird Road.

  • I tried to get some footage there back in 2007, just before the track work that eliminated the diamond. The station name was Oleander. Although it is no longer mentioned in the timetable, it is still used by local railfans to describe the area. The view from the overpass was all but completely blocked when I was there leaving only the option of walking in from NW 12 St. By the time I had gotten the nerve to do it, track work had begun. Great to see that someone got it on video. Fav'd

  • Amazing footage! Thank you so much for sharing!!

  • @canyondogh removed in 2008 in favor of a new series of turnouts.

  • Awesome video Alan! At least for the most part one can see this op five times weekly.

  • Is that crossover still there ? This is a recent video ?
