Beautiful mezza voce (from 2'57"). Wonderfully acted in an unusually romantic style, and gorgeously photographed. There are indeed better voices, past and present, but this is foremost a MOVIE and not a stage production. Grigolo will probably gain vocal strength with time and practice, hopefully giving him added "fullness" of tone and a wider timbre. But in terms of visual results, Grigolo is superb, and I can't think of anyone better. Would the movie have improved with an overweight tenor?

@MrGualtiero1 I agree with you as to Grigolo's voice and experience. However, tho he is a very good looking young man, he simply does not exude, either in voice nor in appearance and acting ability, the raw sensuality that "the over weight tenor" did. Therefore, in my humble opinion, Grigolo comes off as weak, and sympathetic as opposed to the true nature of the Duca which was, in my belief, predatory, and conquering where women were concerned. Therefore, for the present, Pava IS Duca!

Qualcuno l'ha già detto, ed è proprio la mia impressione..... il Duca di Mantova è spietato, non fa il piccioncino, secondo me Grigolo non impersona la figura del Duca.

Non sono un addetto ai lavori, non me ne intendo di "canto sul fiato" e di "appoggi di voce" ma credo per certo che questa scena sia assolutamente emozionante e che arrivi dritta al sentimento delle persone. Il canto non e'solo tecnica. Grigolo per me e' un attore straordinario, un grande comunicatore, canta bene e in piu' e' anche bello. Saluti !!!
