Fritz Wunderlich (tenor)
Otto Wiener (bass)
Orchestra and Chorus of the Bavarian Radio
Joseph Keilberth cond.

Part Two
"Leben und Singen" (Life and Singing)

Pt 3-3

"Trost" aus "Geistliche Gedichte"

Der jagt dahin, daß die Rosse schnaufen,
Der muß im Staub daneben laufen;
Aber die Nacht holt beide ein,
Setzt jenen im Traume neben die Rosse
Und den andern in seine Karosse.
Wer fährt nun fröhlicher? Der da wacht,
Oder der blinde Passagier bei Nacht?

"Consolation" from "Sacred poems"

He who hunts till his horses pant
And he who must run beside him in the dust,
Both are overtaken by night,
Setting one in dream beside his steeds
And the other in his coach.
Who now is the happier traveller? He who watches
Or the blind passenger by night?

6. Spruch 2 aus "Sängerleben"

Gleichwie auf dunklem Grunde
Der Friedensbogen blüht,
So durch die böse Stunde
Versöhnend geht das Lied.

Aphorism 2 from "Minstrel life"

Just as over dark ground
The rainbow blooms,
So in the evil hour
Song brings appeasement.
.
