(East Deerfield, MA - Rumford, ME mixed freight)

On Friday I decided to go out and find a train and chase it. 30 seconds after arriving in Westford at CPF-307 I stumbled upon this EDRU with a wide cab GP40 in fairly fresh PAR II paint leading. It was a great surprise to see an eastbound in the morning with nice lighting.

I chased the train to Chelmsford and then went to check on the empty coal train in Tyngsboro. After I came back, I heard that they did a crew change in Lowell and figured I could beat them to Tewksbury. I went down 38 which parallels the tracks and caught them just in time at North st.

  • Nice video Matt...wow, they were carrying some great speed through West Chelmsford...I haven't seen that much lately.

  • Thanks, a while back I caught SEWA and POSE trains at School st, but there was a 10MPH speed restriction there. Now its 10MPH from CPF-WL to CPF-307 and 25MPH from CPF-307 to CPF-NC. The speed makes it really difficult to manipulate the camera and take pictures of eastbound coming around that curve :P

  • Thanks for the ENCORE!, Matt. Too bad you didn't get him at Livingston Street.

  • Not a problem. I didn't know how long their crew change would take so I figured I would hit North st first and see how far along they were, but they were already there and making every bit of track speed. I got my stuff out of the car and hit the record button just before the crossing activated.

  • awesome engine sound. very impressive.

  • That GP40 has a great horn.

  • Nice video, Matt. 506 definitely has one of the better horns I've heard from a PanAm unit.

  • That wide cab looks good and the horn sounds smooth! Great job and nice shots, Matty!

  • Nice catch Matt
