In fairness - i can't remember the last time i bought a greggs pasty because there isn't a greggs in my town, i buy pasties all the time though.

You're right, I'm really not sure why. He's using a policy known as expansionary fiscal contraction which is an unproven economic hypothesis. He has no expertise in economics and is simply trying out remains of any neo-liberalist policies (which Thatcher used to get us into two major recessions in the 80s). As a consequence, he has got us into a double-dip recession while many economies around the world have been improving.
