In the Arizona desert, Drew Carey discovers a modern-day "Footloose" story. A few years ago, Dale and Spencer Bell built a family oriented steak house with outdoor seating, fire pits, lots of old western style, and live music. But beware if you get the urge to scoot your boots--county officials have invoked an anachronistic ordinance that bans dancing outside.

  • I can only assume you are being sarcastic. In the USA, a law is void if it violates the Constitution, and this dancing ban clearly violates the first amendment.

the government doesn't have the right to tell the people they can't dance, laugh or sing.

  • What you're basically seeing here is that local governments love to get their "cut," and they're sponsored by other businesses who don't like the new competition. Believe it or not, these folks are competing against entertainment venues and restaurants, who are more than likely got friends and cronies in positions of power to do something about it. And when this happens, word has to get out about it, and people have to be informed. It's wrong, and it has to be stamped out.

  • I hate to disagree with this video, but there is a problem. You see, the 1st Amendment doesn't protect anyone from local civic ordnances. The operative word in the 1st Amendment is "Congress." It's a prohibition on the Federal Government, not the states or the counties, from passing laws abridging speech. I'm not saying that's it's right, I'm saying that's the law. And if you don't like the local laws, work to change them. Don't wait for government to do it.

  • I once stayed at a local Canadian bed&breakfast hotel. The owners were an old couple that used to have a cool big Victorian place downtown close to all the businesses. The local gov devised a new tax code that forced them to have to sell and relocate the business to a less desirable location and building. They couldn't sell the old place right away but rules disallowed ownership of more than one place so they actually had to divorce until it sold in order to maintain ownership temporarily.

  • damn these regulations!

  • The local powers that be should be ashamed for being so unamerican. This is a clear violation of the Constitutional rights of the people. Yet these people spit on freedom and everything american.

These freedom hating government officals would have made great leaders in the old Communist Soviet Union.

  • Elmore City banned dancing for 100 years. Did the old bans originate out of fear whites might mix with Native Americans, and fear in general of a different culture?

  • San Tan Flat Can Dance The Night Away

    East Valley Tribune - April 30, 2008

"A Pinal County judge has ruled that San Tan Flat restaurant is not an illegal dance hall.

Pinal County Superior Court Judge William O'Neil said Wednesday that the open-air steakhouse does not morph into a dance hall every time someone sways to live music in the restaurant's courtyard.

The decision ended a nearly two-year legal battle over dancing at the father and son-owned restaurant located south of Queen Creek."

  • The owners (father & son ) really are a couple of nut cases anyway. Hard to believe that Drew Carey would allow himself to be caught in the middle. Yes, I have been in the rest/bar and what I witnessed the son doing was completely bizarre to say the least. The kid appears to be on crack
