News and New Media (Twitter)

This clip from WIBW-TV, which aired on Jan. 17 2009 illustrates how new media can be a source for more news content.

A video journalist from WIBW-TV may not have made it to the scene of a multiple car wreck on I-70, but a new media user did. Using his cell phone Twitter user @clindsey took a few pictures as he drove past the accident and continued on his morning commute. Later in the morning @clindsey uploaded the pictures to Twitter.

WIBW video journalist and new media user @josh_at_Wibw had been following @clindsey on Twitter and noticed the posted pictures. After contacting @clindsey and getting permission to use the pictures, @josh_at_Wibw was able to use them as part of the evening newscast.

Everyone is a reporter, and news is always breaking.
