  • Now that's a blast from the past! I was introduced to this song as a kid by the Alan Lomax recording...used to find it a bit misogynist (that version ended with "ugly little girl, when I've got a pretty wife at home")...but now, in the greater wisdom of advanced age, I realize it's a lesson about trying too hard!

  • I thought it was about a soldier away from home (at war) having an affair only to abandon her when the war was over.

    Not about trying too hard but about being taken advantage of.

  • you sing great Lew!! i sung this in 4th grade on day and i loved it and now i cant get it out of my head we also danced to it but, it didnt go so well, the whole class was cracking up the whole time but still you sung it awsomely!!
