Oh, and if it seems odd that there's not a single Cross subweapon on this stage...Syfa is exactly the reason why Trevor can't have nice things, because it would be entirely too destructive if you could have easy access to that Lightning spell for the final battle.
It's not all bad, though. Syfa's swift, wide strokes with that staff make for excellent means to take out interloping Medusa Heads and bats. The Ice spell would be nearly useless, but I did manage to determine that using it on a Blood Skeleton affords Syfa the only means in the whole game to permanently destroy them.
That said, this means that only subweapon that Syfa can actually use against Dracula is the Fire spell...and fortunately, the spell packs more than enough punch to send Dracula reeling. The units on the enemy life bar just melt away against the intense heat of sacred flames.
And now for my silly version of events as to how the endgame plays out in this case (you were warned):
"Ah, that Syfa...such a pleasant traveling companion and ally in the quest to defeat the forces of darkness," Trevor muses to himself. "Although...it seems to me that I'm unusually fixated on him. What is this strange feeling coming over me?"
While Trevor muses over the awkward feelings he cannot seem to grasp, much less express properly, he hears Syfa's distinctive high-pitched scream (unlike the near opposite of Alucard's which makes me think that he, on the other hand, must speak with quite the baritone, somewhat in keeping with his characterization in Symphony of the Night, actually...but I digress), he is called from the sidelines to lob a couple of Axes at the demonic statue that had grazed his companion with powerful laser fire.
"Are you all right, my friend?" Trevor rushes to where Syfa lay on the floor from the force of the attack.
"I'm fine," was the simple reply.
"You're--!"
"We have more important things to worry about, Trevor. The fiend must be vanquished now or never!"
Trevor let loose with another toss of his mighty Axe and Syfa took up position on one of the inexplicably animate sections of floor as it passed nearby and loosed a searing jet of fire directly at Dracula's head as the eyes glowed menacingly, preparing for another shot.
The mighty stone skin crumbled away and with it the whole castle began to shake.
Syfa and Trevor escaped to the safety of a nearby cliff and watched as Castlevania, the demon castle of Dracula, collapse upon itself.
Okay, so like the rest of the game, it's not going to win any awards for most amazing storytelling ever...maybe the most elementary and simplistic way of stating said story, but that's nothing new ever since the title screen and its intro sequence.
But what could be Syfa's alarming secret? Why didn't Trevor notice until now? Was it merely a localization issue, or will it one day be embraced and further speculated upon by future Castlevania games?!
I have no idea what I might be referring to, you'll just have to watch and see for yourself.
I'm not sure if it means that Trevor is blind or Syfa is just THAT good. Then again, I've seen some of the manual art from the Japanese release, so maybe it's entirely justified. It's probably my favorite thing to mull over during the course of the game, anyway. All future references to Sypha will assume you're already aware of and accept this as the actual course of events, though.
Oh...and the Romanization you've seen four times now..."Syfa"/"Sypha" may be close enough, but the surname is about as far from "Belnades" as you can get while still obeying the same general rules of katakana interpretation...although I have no idea why they so liberal with extra instances of the letter "m"...

I had to laugh at 2:27, when Syfa switches over to Trevor to let him fall into the hole instead.
So Syfa has the hair of a beautiful blonde woman and Trevor gives him a romantic-looking grasp on the shoulders. And then Syfa gets a pronoun shift.
Well, at least I thought Syfa was a woman when we first saw her, and I was surprised to find her referred to as "he" and "him." I wonder what type of comfortability she's acquired hanging with Trevor.

This is hilarious.
