@markalson1938 You are so right, I have said that a million times, and look at tv, nothing, but socalled reality which is horrible scripts, ugly bad actors passed off as being real (like pro wrestling), add to the fact no one ever reads books anymore, and one can see the road we are headed down.

nice

Absolutely!
My problem with the Western Channel is that they don't show many 40s B-westerns anymore, and the few that they do show, they just keep repeating over and over.
Thank God I taped 'em when they were on.

sadly you are right, the western is all,but gone,in college I took film as a minor, the only interest most of the younger students had was sci fi, or horror, they would not even watch a black/white film, or other classics. The other thing is our changing Amercia, I grew up in the 1950's, 1960's then most Amercians still had roots in early America, not so today, in a few decades the Amercia we knew will be gone, and there will be no repect for our past, many today see the cowboy as a joke.

@htrrz You are so right, my grandson who is 15 has never seen a Western Movie and he isn't interested to do so.
There just isn't any special effects in them. I think Special Effects has ruined the film industry. They now rely on Special Effects to cover up a bad story and bad acting. a good example of this are the remakes of "The Day The World Stood Still" and "The War Of The Worlds" Could you get any worst acting that what's in them.

@htrrz You are right the written word had gone out off style in most households but not in mine. We have book cases full of books in every room in the house. Now that I'm retired I read two novels a week. My Grandson who is 15 has already read "Atlas Shruged". He is now working on "War And Peace" now that was even to much for me.

nice but NOT about it being long gone!! They still make Westerns and everytime they do they aee popular .One of my favorites rather new ones in comparison to these golden oldies is Tomb Stone!! Not all is lost!!

@moski388 Yes there are still some being made but most that are made for TV are junk. Yes "Tombstone" was a good movie as was "3:10 To Yuma" (but not as good as the orginal) But there just isn't enough made these days. Do you know any kids today that go out and play "Cowboys and Indians"? Not Likley

I grew up with the same 40s B-Westerns that you did. My heroes were Hoppy, Roy, and Gene.
And "Wild Bill" Elliott,"Rocky" Lane,"Lash" laRue,the Durango Kid(Charles STARRETT),etc., and I still love them.
And I loved Vaughn Monroe and Frankie Laine
(my God, all the nickels I dumped in the juke box for "Mule Train" and "That Lucky Old Sun").
And I remember getting into the Saturday matinee double-feature for a dime, and a bag of popcorn for a dime. And a nickel for the bus.
Boy, I miss 'em.

Don't forget for that dime at the movie theater you got A Double Feature, The NewsReel, A Chapter from the Latest Serial,
and a couple of Cartoons. What A Bargan. I think that is why The Western Channel on Cable is my favorite TV channel.
