Black Mountain College was a phenomenal circumstance. The fact that so many artists of that level in their respective fields could organize and develop such an institution is unparalleled. Who would've thought that a small mountain town of western North Carolina would be their home, albeit for a short while.
I grew up at Black Mountain College from 1945-51. The entrance road was a dirt road, and there was nothing on the lake between the Dining Hall and the Studies Building. The site has changed from the early days. The College was an experiment that only lasted 23 years or so. Nobody was famous at that time (except perhaps the Bauhaus people, Gropius, the Albers etc). Many people have been omitted from the list on this video.
