An improvised Industrial / Drone track performed on my Roland SP-404. I'm still getting to grips with this piece of gear, so the performance is a bit flaky at points.

  • i'm new to all this stuff but i'm watching all these videos and i see the RCA cables in the back instead of a normal input. why do people use rca connectors and what are they connected to? thanks.

  • @threeup2 Hey, apologies for the delayed response.

RCA connectors are fairly common with hardware like this. 'Why' these are used as opposed to other common audio connections is not something I can really answer. It's just another standard really. I think that the SP-404 is geared towards the use with decks, and I'm pretty sure that hi-fi gear like that uses RCA often.

Hope that helps in some way. In this situation I plugged it into an external sound card connected to my PC that takes RCA.

  • can i write melodies on his thing, like synth etc etc..im noob sorry man!

  • @teamsleepnine I suppose you could - but I wouldn't say it's the best tool for that kind of job at all.

  • @lyricallobster thanks man....i'm thinking of writing some simple lines on this thing and pre programmed and use this as a loop.....can i??or you have any other suggestion?....thank you.

  • @teamsleepnine Yeah, that would work - if you assign melodic samples to the pads, then you gout trigger a sequence. Alternatively you could sample melody, assign it to a pad then loop it.

  • This is good. Takes awhile to build but its nice. Reminds me of something that should be on a Machinenfest or Hands comp...

  • @threeup2 because they are made with the idea that DJs will plug them into their mixers which use RCA connections.

  • hey im looking at buying one of these, and i was wondering, can you play this out of a guitar amp? because i dont have any other speakers or anything, and im confused how these are amplified. and help would be appreciated, cause i really dont want to get one of these and find out its not what i thought it was (thats already happened with other things ive gotten, thanks.

  • @lyricallobster no problem, thanks for the reply!
