Paul Pena (January 26, 1950 October 1, 2005) was an American singer, songwriter and guitarist of Cape Verdean descent.

His music from the first half of his career touched on Delta blues, jazz, morna, flamenco, folk and rock and roll. Pena is probably best known for writing the song "Jet Airliner," a major 1977 hit for the Steve Miller Band and a staple of classic rock radio; and for appearing in the 1999 documentary film Genghis Blues, wherein he displayed his abilities in the field of Tuvan throat singing.

The span of Pena's musical genius is incredible. He was a real guy who lived a troubled life of blindness, disease, depression and loss. Nevertheless he played the blues with genuine passion, he appreciated the beauty of musical traditions far away, like the overtone singing tradition of Tuva, and he incorporated this music in his own work brilliantly like the true ecclectic master he was. This soothing bossa nova tune which draws on his Cape Verdean origins is yet another example of that.

@IRastaman420 At this point the artist asks the ocean to be his friend (metaphor) and take a letter to his lover and once the water from the ocean gets there tell my girlfriend that I miss her so. Tell her that I’m suffering (in pain) because I miss the one I love who is in Cape Verde.

@IRastaman420 The song “Traz DiOrizonte, is sung in “Crioulo” the language spoken by the people of Cape Verde which is group of African Islands located off of the West Coast of Africa near Senegal. The song is about a man who has traveled abroad and he is longing for his mother and his girlfriend that he has left behind.
