  • I agree, a lot of the stuff on the shelves are just things for people who have no time. LOL Now, about the tea, I wish I could grow it here...and yes...sigh...the coffee...LOL

  • I was referring to mint tea and other herb teas. Black tea is just an addicting stimulant!

  • Corporations pay more for eye-level shelves in supermarkets, so you will always find the best brands on the middle shelves, did you know that?

  • Green tea is my favorite! i have been drinking it now for 3 years and i love it! King Cole organic in my opinion is the best! :)

  • We use coupons. A lot of the stuff she is saying are cheaper if you make it yourself, if you use coupons are free or nearly free.

  • For the hot cereal you could just buy the cereal you want and warm up the milk on the stove or a microwave.

  • Marmite is gorgeous!

  • MARMITE you either love it or hate it and I hate it. :)

  • PPS unless your talking about mountain-shade, or valley shade - that's where my advice runs out. LOL And don't forget all that good space on your roof.

  • As for your shade problem - My parents had a similar block - coincidentally with rocky, clay soils (I'm on a sandy coastal plain)....

My best advice is befriend a tree guy ( we call them tree loppers here) and sweeten him up with some of your homegrown produce.

Find a sunny patch and have him trim away all the branches that face inward to the sunny point. Use No-Dig or containers

When the branches grow back, find a different spot and repeat the process. Happy trees, happy veges, happy u

  • A google on "how to grow alfalfa sprouts" will give you the basic method.....but...

Alfalfa MUST be rinsed 3 times a day or it get's stinky. (if you're out of the house a lot - grow something else)

Use good water - the stuff from the tap is often full of chlorine, flouride, and other nasties which the delicate alfalfa seeds hate.

As for the soil problem, take a look at No-Dig-Gardening. It's a good labor saving method. No heavy digging and you can leave the clay and rocks alone :-)

  • @kingazzaman, hey give me a buzz on here and add me as I would like to learn more on growing sprouts properly and harvesting them..I am interested in that..as for space I have 5 acres to experiment with on gardening but still do container stuff in the house..my soil is crap due to clay and rock so Im trying to do raised beds outside but my lot is pretty shaded so am having some problems plus trying to stay organic and still get a decent harvest...thanks!
