Well...keep in mind that it is a sport belonging to a period in which young men carried swords, knives and maces...and even minor issues like bad comments on a loved one or simple opinion clashes where dealt with accordingly. ;-)
And that was during the scarse periods of PEACE... the remaining time was spent in horrible bloodshedding field battles with the neighbouring towns (called Ducati).
