@y2zgt It was like a cable box you hooked into your cartridge slot and it allowed you to play 50 games as many times as you wanted for 1 month, then you'd pay a renewal fee and they would rotate what was available... Think of it as OnLive, but not laggy or if Steam was a all you can eat rental service. You could play as much as you wanted every month you paid for the service. This was before the internet was huge.

My friend had this. It was awesome. We played a beat em up game and one of the levels was on a train. Been looking for that game for years.

I wanted Sega channel so badly, Sega really was innovative, They should really just bring this back

Sega Channel was one of the coolest things ever. So back in the day, you could hook up your sega to your cable, using a special cartridge and you'd be able to play 50 games every month for as much as you want before they put in new ones! It wasnt even that expensive, it was 15 dollars a month for 50 games! It was one of the best parts of my childhood. There would be games you couldnt find anywhere else or never even tried.

I don't get what sega channel is?
-
@wtcvidman It was only a few bucks a month.

I read about the Sega channel in videogame magazines at the time, but never saw an ad for it until I watched this. I wonder how much it was per month compared to buying the games they had up on it. Some games like that Mega Man Wily Wars & Golden Axe III weren't available in the U.S. except for the Sega channel.

@jeffhardywii You don't remember that... LOL!!! maybe your dad does.
In the end, around 96 or 97, I had to choose whether to keep the Sega Channel or get the Internet. Due to its unfortunate lack of boobs, the Channel drew the short straw. :-(
