How green are biofuels made from palm oil? In Indonesia, forests are being felled to make way for palm oil plantations. Deforestation is now the world's second greatest cause of greenhouse gas.

"This is very bad", laments Greenpeace representative, Hapsoro, looking around a palm oil plantation. In this area alone, 8,000 hectors of forest have been replaced with plantations. Last year, more than a billion tones of carbon dioxide was released into the environment by forest fires, caused to clear land for plantations. Indonesia has high hopes palm oil will become the new green gold. "We want to be the number one exporter", states forestry minister Ms Ka'ban.

  • It will be these developing countries that will decide the environmental future of this planet.

  • We need to educate young people about deforestation, they are our future decision-makers. Hopefully it's not too late...

  • Not easy to do something about it....We need to educate young people about deforestation, they are the future decisoin-makers.

  • all this destruction so that pretentious westerners can have they're beauty products... if supply of palm oil stopped they would be enraged, but then they would be just as angry if this damage happened in they're own countries...

  • This planet is fucked if everyone strips their environment like the west

  • ...and illegal logging by neighboring countries. That, I hear it quite often.

    Poor Indonesia. D:

  • is it my head phones or was the sound only coming out of the right speaker?
