@monom90 right click on the instrument and go down...one of the commands will say "Initialize patch".

Go to the top where it says window and click on show on-screen piano keys. Now you can hear the sound and tweak it

can you do automation with the rate speed on the maelstrom?

@misterbuckethead Yes, right click the "Rate" dial on Modulator B (or modulator a if you want to automate that section) and select "Edit Automation", hit record and change the Mod B Rate parameters and it will record it all.
