At a candidates' forum in Rutherford County, NC, Heath Shuler defends his decision to refuse to debate on Sundays; adding that he's attended 7 debates his opponent, Charles Taylor, has refused.

Ok, well its two year later - Now we have a man of principle running on the "R" ticket.

No Sundays, I know.... Glad Shular is out of football, no work on Sunday.

Shuler is a man of consistent principles. I remember when he was in the NFL, he refused to participate then on Sundays, too.

Repub-friendly? on a station that comes on right after Rush, and just before Hannity? Funny thing is, you're right...Matt Mittan is a basket case that thinks 9/11 was a Gov't Conspiracy! They set up the debate, to set Taylor up, they were looking to help Shuler just before the election. Shuler may win, but He can't vote His values, and get the earmarks that Taylor did. Therefore only absolute idiots would vote for Him.

The set-up was classic Taylor BS: bait and switch. He's done this every election.

And values? Spending taxpayer money convincing the poor he's doing them favors while he funnels money to friends and his own "non-profit" with a million dollar payroll from federal grants.

And what earmarks? We get less federal money per capita than almost any other region in the entire country. Now, he's done a great job appropriating millions for the people of Maine, Utah and Kentucky.

Shuler turned down the REAL debate...which WLOS was going to play in PrimeTime. Taylor doesn't care to go to Shuler set up debates and be heckled by looney Liberals.

So why didn't he show up to the most recent debate, which he'd agreed to do? Calling in from a Repub-friendly radio station is not following the rules that HE AGREED TO. Why's Taylor afraid to meet Shuler face-to-face?

I am not a big fan of Shuler. I have a hard time voting for conservatives Dem since they tend to allow themselves to be bullied by the Bush Administration.

Having said this, Shuler is a principled individual who will do what he believes is right for WNC.

Taylor, on the other hand, is a social Darwinist who has repeatedly shown that he cares more about his Russian banking business than his responsibilities to this community.

I hope dozens of people boycott or protest or take some action against the Citizen-Times. They've been going along with Taylor's dirty tricks for years and it's time they were held accountable.
