Another hearing and I am convinced to bracket this performance with the excellent rendition by Ponti; both have a 'feeling' for the music and ignore the technics (pretty similar to Backhaus in his playings) - the best version before the Public today.

Of the 6 set this is my choice for the better etude, and to boot the rendition is first-rate - Mr Hamelin's reputation for virtuosity is absolutely correct! (I had closed my eyes and thought that this might be the earlier performance of Kentner!)
