how many pennys was the decoder? are the sounds programmed in when purchased?

The decoder was fitted in the tender. Had to remove the metal weights and DCC socket in the tender to get it to fit.

what are the dimensions of your layout?
cos it looks superb.

Thanks. It's on a 6 x 8 foot baseboard (actually 2 baseboards each 6 x 4 foot, side by side; bit of a 'hump' where they join unfortunately, but otherwise works well).

did you have to modify the body in any way?

No, the (tender) body was untouched (apart from cutting off interior plastic stalks for securing weights and DCC socket). The loco body was also untouched.

thanks , which decoder did you use?

I used an ESU LokSound 3.5 decoder, sold by SWD (South West Digital) in UK as "Steam Mogul with BR or LMS whistle".
It came with a speaker which I also fitted in the tender.
