The Thunderbird — perhaps the most famous wooden boat on Lake Tahoe — went out for a spin on the lake in anticipation of the upcoming Concours d'Elegance boat show Aug. 9-11, 2007, and the Tahoe World was there.

  • 3:20 Typical SCUMBAG rich dude. While most men were spilling their blood in Europe the guy hides his runabout because he is afraid his boat, that he could rebuy 100 times over, will be used to help the war effort.

  • This is my favorite boat on Lake Tahoe.

  • where on the lake is this boat these days?

  • I clean the hacker craft buildings on lake george! =D

  • Whittell is the reason most of the Nevada side of Tahoe was undeveloped. One of the reasons he never used the boat again was because he was depressed over the death of May Mohagen, his assistant. She died is a horrible auto accident and Mr Whittell had the wreckage towed to the Lodge on the hill over looking the house, he basically lost interest in many things after she passed away. There are many myths about Mr Whittell, many which are not true. He was a great guy and it's a amazing story.

  • My dad is a Master Marine Mechanic and worked on Lake Tahoe for many a year and had a small business there for a little bit.

He was telling me about this boat tonight and I just had to look for this boat.

    She is a beautiful boat.

  • I saw this boat when it was in the Harrah Car Collection in the late 70's

    Incredible Boat!

  • @anwarpuggle ive lived in tahoe for 16 years the bottom is 1645 feet deep its the 2nd deepest in north america behind crater lake in oregon and im sure theres lakes deeper than that elsewhere

  • really? because i lived in tahoe for two years, and it's 1645ft at the deepest... but lake Baikal in Siberia is like 5400ft deep...

the mystery of the bottom of Tahoe is due to the fact that they won't allow any deep camera research into it... the local myth behind that is the fact that in the 70's through the late 90's there were a lot of bodies dumped in tahoe and due to the cold of the lake, they don't deteriorate very fast, so it would only bring bad press... again, local myth

  • lake tahoe isnt the deepest
