When a swelling was noticed on the ear of one of our bobcats, we decided to sedate Windstar in order to drain the fluid from his ear. We then stitched the incisions open so no further problems would occur.

Windstar had been relocated to another enclosure the previous week, so we could renovate his.

So when he woke up we transferred him back into his new and improved living space for him to enjoy!

  • Was projectile stream of infectious blood just the infection draining? Did it make that stream because of the pressure? Poor cat wow, that must have been so painful, but at least he's ok now thank G--d. Happy belated kitty, glad to hear you're doing better.

P.S. Windstar, just as a BTW, nice going on not really scratching the infected area and let the sutures & complete healing process take it's course and heal properly ;) Props gorgeous. BCR Keep up your angelic work that you so naturally do!

  • @MasTArrrRR Yep, exactly the pressure was built up in there and the resulting stream of blood etc... had to be squeezed out before we could suture it . Windstar is a cool, big bobcat we're happy he's back to normal :)

  • aw windstar is such a handsom lil bob cat!!!! glad hes ok now:) hope he had a happy kitty birthday yesterday. do u know how old he is now?

  • He turned 11 years old on monday!

  • Great guy! Hope Windstar is doing well...

The cats who find a home with you guys are lucky indeed! Thanks for posting!

  • He had an abscess - basically an infection or bite that became infected but didn't drain - thus the body works overtime and produces more fluid which also 'goes bad'. Eventually the abscess MUST be drained or it can make the animal (or person) very sick. If you have a very strong stomach, you can watch many videos of similar operations on animals and humans. It's really gross though. I mean REALLY gross. To BCR - that sound effect make me laugh!

  • We weren't 100% sure it just got infected somehow, noit hasn't refilled since all is good, Windstar as lost some of his good looks though with his floppy ear!

  • Was the dr. able to determine what caused the ear to fill up? Was it a cyst? Has it refilled since? Sorry I am a vet tech so the medical stuff really interests me :)
