(GOLDENEYE: X IS A WORK IN PROGRESS! We're aware of the fact that there are still a lot of visual oddities, especially related to the muzzle flashes and tracers. They will be fixed in future versions - this is more of a proof-of-concept release.)

GoldenEye: X is a port of GoldenEye 007's characters, weapons, and maps to Perfect Dark. Perfect Dark runs on an upgraded GoldenEye engine and the games use very similar data formats as a result, meaning a direct port is possible for many things. Since it's running on essentially the same engine the game will still be true to the original, while allowing us to do many things that had to be hackishly simulated in GoldenEye, such as co-operative missions. The plan is to port over as many things as possible, including the entire single player portion of the game in addition to multiplayer. Fans of the solo missions will not be disappointed with this project.

A quick feature list of what is available in the current patch:

-James Bond (Tuxedo), Natalya (Russia), Trevelyan (Janus), and Moonraker Elite body models
-James Bond (Tuxedo), Natalya (Russia), Trevelyan (Janus), Joe 2, and Terrorist head models
-Phantom and Golden Gun weapon models (first and third person)
-Timed, Proximity, and Remote Mine and Hand Grenade third person models
-Body armor model, replaces shield
-Temple, Library, Caves, and Egyptian multiplayer arenas.

All of Perfect Dark's combat simulator scenarios are still available, along with the ability to play with simulants. Currently the sims will not work in Temple, Library, or Caves because these stages lack the path network needed for them to navigate the arena, but those will be available in a future update.

Credit goes to Wreck for most of what is seen in this video. He's the one who undertook the massive task of porting the character and weapon models, plus making sure the converted stage backgrounds and setups worked properly. In the future more of us will likely have contributions in this project, but for now he's the one who deserves all of the praise.

  • hey when i posted this on the shooters forever forum u guys told me it wasn't possible . just don't take this the wrong way . but i have 1 other when will the full patch be out

  • @armymen12002003 Yeah, we've (well, mostly SubDrag and Wreck) made a good deal of progress with PD since you posted your question.

    Full patch will probably take a lot longer than we originally planned; unforeseen problems, you know how it is. There should be another preview patch out sometime soon though.

  • Man those bots are great seeing all the walls in their "new map".

    1:33 is awesome the splashing of water, I can't remember GE007 lookin' so detailed ;]

  • @mistamontiel GE and PD have a "path network" that the guards and sims use to find the players. Egyptian already had one in place for its guards in GE, which we ported over to PD. The multi-only maps in GE didn't have them, so we need to make them ourselves before the sims will be usable in those maps. It's easy, but time consuming.

    The footstep sounds are nice, aren't they? GE had them originally, too. You can hear them in one of the trailers, but they were cut from the final version.

  • How would you put this to a real 64 cart permanently. I own both perfect dark and Golden eye, sou I would be legally entitled to patch the real thing.

  • @Kiokuffiib11 You best bet right now would be NeoFlash's N64 Myth cart. There are a few more N64 flash carts in development, so chances are there will be a few to choose from by the time this project is finished. I've read some not-so-great reviews of the Myth cart, but there are two people I know who say it works fine with both GoldenEye and Perfect Dark now, so if those are the games you're worried about then I guess it would be worth picking one up.

  • Man, I wish goldeneye had bots. PD is loads of fun, it really is, but james bond is so cool, I miss having my character being Trevelyan.

  • I wish I knew you guys in person. Because if I did I would gladly help you in any way possible to make this awesome project come alive. Even though you wouldn't really need it. And if you oculd make the citadel as a perfectly playable multiplayer level, that would be even more awesome.

  • since we can't have the original goldeneye on xbox i think rare should take goldeneye put the pefect dark people in but leave everything just take out the bond references. stupid activision.

  • we had loads of fun playing this today, me and a friend.

    I didn't like it as much playing with bots tho, but its still cool it works.

    However it would be fun if you could fix the freezing issues when you change head on a character forexample.

    Awesome work anyways!

    Love it that you can have to guns blazing at the same time in multiplayer.
