It was January 10, 2009. Patti Lupone was heading into the climax song of 'Gypsy,' "Rose's Turn," when Lupone realized that "You either have it -- Or you've had it." And Patti had HAD it with that photographer! "Stop taking pictures, RIGHT NOW!"
Patti, I love you, but this is hysterical. And no I didn't film this. And yes, go ahead and laugh at the irony that she's yelling at someone using a camera while the person who took this video was also using a camera. Ya-da-ya.

No copyright infringement intended. I didn't film this. For entertainment purposes, only.

  • honestly, i wouldn't care if she broke character or not. Gypsy is one of the most overdone shows in existence. people didn't come to see the show; they came to see patti. and if I was able to hear the one and only patti lupone do something this epic, I wouldn't complain. I'd probably be shaking from excitement. Everyone in that audience got a treat.

  • @buffymovies

That's a hideous attitude. If people wanted to go see Patti, they could go to one of her concerts... lord knows she does enough of them.

  • i understand that it must be hellish annoying to have flashes when ur on stage in character, and annoying for the audience too, but i dont agree with stoppng mid-climax song to make ur point. Personally i always get into a show and forget im in a theatre and its all make-believe and if the main character were to stop the show midway during a performance i was watching, id be peeed off about that. She should have waited and made the big announcement at the end, not make a huge song and dance.

  • As it turns out....The man taking pictures was a photog for the Times and was indeed supose to be there..."Taking pictures"

  • she is retarded

  • What a pretentious bitch. Did she do the same thing during Evita once? So unprofessional, just rude since she didn't even stop to consider that maybe they were supposed to be taking pictures, and it completely ruins the feel of the show. If I was seeing a show and the lead did that during the climax of a song, I'd throw something at them.

  • well i wonder what she did to make more applause knowing patti it must have been something extremely silly and bad at the same time HA i lvoe her and i cant believe she did it but at least she knows that people are going to be taking pictures more discretly if not at all lol

  • Gosh, you gotta love Patti Lupone! =)

  • @pudgeuncle According to Wiki, she is of Italian descent and, specifically, of the Abruzzo region in Italy.

  • @XxBrooklynsFinestxX Obviously the usher was not doing their job. I bet if you polled the 1600 people in that audience, 1599 were thriled.

  • @JusticeCorbin I am no fan of LuPone's and the issue is the FLASH. It is not a mere distraction. I know from personal experience that it is blinding and seems much longer than a second. I nearly go hurt. She does have a history of diva like behavior which I find appalling. She did just what Katharine Hepburn did during the run of Coco and Ms. LuPone is correct that the talent has an obligation to advocate for audiences. How can you be "in the moment' with such an intrusion?

  • @pudgeuncle Might I add, I have been in several productions where people have used flash photos...It's really not as blinding as the spotlights shining in your face when you're on stage - so that excuse doesn't hold up...

  • Sorry, but I disagree...As an actor, one should be "in the moment" in order to make a performance believable...If some "unknown" actor did this on Broadway, they'd be fired...The only reason she got away with it was because of who she is. And, I'm sorry, but her actions were completely unproffesional, as they are in many shows she's been in before (like yelling at her actors as soon as the curtain went down in "Noises Off" so the whole audience could hear)

  • @bubblesgigglessmiles I doubt that you have ever had a FLASH camera go off while you are performing. It blinds you and it makes you totally lose concentration. I nearly fell into the orchestra pit once during a number in Pajama Game. I applaud LuPone and it sounds like the audience got more than their money's worth.
