Completed in August 2009, the Frontier Project is a United States Green Building Council LEED® Platinum certified demonstration facility to educate the local community, businesses and builders in the latest sustainable methods and technologies related to water, energy and site conservation.
The Frontier Project and HMC Architects participate in a Learning Laboratory Collaborative that promotes sustainable building and operation strategies. The Learning Laboratory Collaborative intends to share their results and research findings with the community to help others make buildings more sustainable and efficient. The project includes many sustainable strategies: rain water harvesting, storm management, cool tower, solar chimneys, photovoltaic panels, solar hot water collectors, drought tolerant gardens, pervious concrete, sun shading device made from post-consumer wood, cool roof, green roof, daylight harvesting, recycled content interior finishes, local materials, and 88% of construction material diverted from landfills.
