Managed to get one on video finally - and it was a big one. No power so uploading via moble broadband from my car with an inverter.
Limited reports on the radio only so I'm still not sure exactly what's happening/happened, hopefully not too many people have been injured or lost their lives :(

Ack, that brings back memories - I was at work at Lincoln and I remember nearly falling over despite holding on to the door frame.

...and in that time, I got part of my tooth smacked out, and I was running for the door, screaming, "fuck, fuck,.., fucking hell... and oh my god". (Not that there is one but...)

Oh man that's epic, yu remember the other large earthquake after that one? A few months later? I got that on camer on my phone lol, I was in a maths test haha!

BTW I give permission to all TV broadcasters to show this. It is in the Ilam/Fendalton area close to the University of Canterbury, an area with almost no visible damage from the street (due to the greater distance from the epicentre, suburban housing, and the damage and repairs caused by the 4 September 7.1 quake). The first quake had no direct loss of life, this one has turned out to be a painfully different story.

Well, we got our power back on last night and I finished digging the computer out of the mess, so finally can give an update. I have to admit I wasn't that worried and was only vaguely within reach of the doorway, mainly to just hold on. But this is only after experiencing the 7.1 mainshock in September then 4000+ aftershocks since - so I knew this level of shaking was safe for the building, and the best area to be in. Pity it was so much worse for those in the CBD and east side of the city.
