when we moved here, in the Leigham/Plymbridge area, I did not know that my garden was a grass snake des-res. On Sunday last I counted 10, from adult, male and female, to little babies the size of worms. I put out by the pondside old corrugated iron sheets to provide a lux warm home for them. They appear in March and carry on to the late autumn. Some people say I should not pick them up - I do it to show people they are harmless, have no fangs and abover all are NOT adders or vipers. I fear many are killed by ignorant people who hate sankes, especially when they think they are poisonous - I mean ALL snakes are dangerous - as they would say. In my immediate family and friends, say 10 people, nobody but me will pick one up. Long may they stay here in safety with myself having a caring eye over them.
