A surprising work of maturity firmly steeped in the tradition of social realism following on from herkomer,millet,and especially daumier. typifying the indominable human urge to strive against all odds. the scenery adds a mystical almost surreal quality to the compositions. allin all a worthy addition to the oeuvre.
