This is my first Mac tricks video I hope you like it.
It shows 3 things:

1. How to quit the Finder:

defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem -bool YES

2. The new "Suck" Minimizing effect

defaults write com.apple.dock mineffect -string suck

3. How to make hidden applications transparent

defaults write com.apple.dock showhidden -bool YES

Also you can't find anything that I showed you in this video as a setting in the System Preferences

  • Well i didnt know you had an old mac. Plus i just cant stand spaces and expose...much easier to navigate as one prgram mission control. Plus i didnt get my mac yet (use my friends often) cuz im waitin for the new line in march.

  • @techster510 Well when you're used to the old system of Expose & Spaces, you get used to it and grow to like it. I've seen the new "Mission Control" in Lion, and for me, the old Spaces & Expose were much better. When you like what you had before, the new replacement for Spaces & Expose just gets in the way, and becomes annoying.

  • Your on Tiger?!?! Wow. Lion is 10000000000000 times better for only $30

  • @techster510 You do realize that Tiger is the maximum version of Mac OS that this computer can run? It's 11 years old. Due to processor limitations, Intel vs. PowerPC, I can't run anything above Leopard even if I did meet the specifications requirements. I don't even like Lion anyways. :/ All those flashy features are just unnecessary, and get in the way.

  • Well the only time i used Snow leopard was to get the necessary files for the preview (bc its actually better in SL) an Front Row (bc it oddly wasnt included in Lion). On my windows comp right mow i have something similar to expose but not spaces and im fine. But on a mac i feel that i need to have spaces features too. I personally like MC better bc it is one program and integrates fully both expose and spaces and has some things that they both previously didnt. Also its a smaller file size for

  • @327bran Well the QuickTime screen recorder is only on Snow Leopard and up, which isn't what I use on my computer. As for the Quick Look, I don't know, since the computer I use has Tiger I can't try anything to see. Google is always your friend though, it's a lot easier to just search for what you want.

  • @lunlun2000 hey kid two things. one did you know that quick time has a built-in screen recording option? when you have quicktime running you just go to file>start new screen recording. then its common sense from there. but also do you know how to make folders in quick look transparent so you can see the contents? I've done it before but i forgot how i did it since i got a new computer a while back. lemme know if you do thanks

  • Thank though

  • u can quit finder thro activity monitor. i guess thts easier
