Polikarpov I 16 Pilot Mark Hanna at Wanaka 1998

Over Easter 1998 the first public display of rebuilt Polikarpov I 16 WW II fighters displayed at the bienial Warbirds over Wanaka New Zealand. Mark Hanna flew in Number. 4 which is shown in this video clip. Mark was killed after landing a Hispano Buchon ME Bf 109 in Spain in 1999 prior to displaying at an Air Show.

Great video. My late father in law was an aviation mechanic during the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939, on the Republican side. He serviced those Moscas as he called them, and kept a leather helmet and gogles given to him by a pilot before the war ended.

He said the little plane did dispose of many Franco aircraft, because it was extremely maneuverable.
