The book is great and very disturbing

People are ignorant. He was frozen for neuro-preservation purposes, his brain was still in-tact and healthy. After being hit with a wrench I'd think that it would be damn near impossible now to revive Ted's brain. That's like bringing Disney back to give him a cigarette.

They need to bury him. I don't want any sign of me left when I leave. In the future, some college student, in a futuristic fucked up world, will have access to your skull, bones and anything else, to hang in his dorm room and do who knows what to you. This is the generations we fought so hard to liberate. We need to think twice now on what we have done.

From my research, it seems that the reason for decapitation is that Alcor can use mroe advanced preservation techniques on the head, and the body is not as important.
