On a 3 week trip to the Yukawa Institute in Kyoto, I and my colleague Sanjay Reddy took a day-trip to nearby Nara. Lots of temples to see, we took in what we could -- first a curative festival at a buddhist temple, where we drank sake to ward off cancer; a coffee break, with one of my favorite ways to prepare coffee (fun to watch, if not delicious); sushi on tracks at a local mall for lunch, before hitting the temples in the hills, and dodging deer; afternoon tea (sooo glad they had an ocha, which is as stimulating as a great cup of coffee); and then to the Fire Festival, with some fireworks before they set the hillside on fire. That's right, they set the hillside on fire. Finally, we end the day in Kyoto with some delightful Japanese bar girls in an okonomiyaki joint.
