@trafficlightblind I tink the song refers to The San Fernando Valley. But I am not sure about that. And if you like singers with rough voices like Janis Joplin you should surely check out Lucinda Williams. She isn't mainstream though. But I doubt if Janis Joplin would have maintained the mainstream succes she had in the sixties if she had lived today!
