from what i have been doing, use frostfire spec when you ding 80. and then untill about 4500+ gs id say go to fire spec/ arcane then once you top off at about 5200 gs and start doing some icc stuff i suggest arcane but most on my server prefer fire because it is easier on mana for the long fights in icc.

To my knowledge frostfire still works really well and is the go-to spec for newly hit 80s, its not a gear dependent spec like fire/arcane is.
