@katakanadian I was clearly talking about Gerald in the post that inspired your soapbox rant.
Clearly, nobody should do anything they don't want to do. At the same time, compromise is the mark of maturity, and if they want to continue in a relationship (a relationship that they both clearly want to continue being in), then they need to work out a compromise that they can both live with. Otherwise they should just break up, and either try to be friends, or put space betweeen them.

I think you misunderstood who I was talking about. When I said "their own character" I was not refering to the character of Gerald. I was refering to the core personality/character of a person who would not find a sexual compromise acceptable (such as myself).

I am asexual myself, and I think you kind of jumped at the opportunity to take offence there.
Maybe they could have compromised differently, but either way I wanted them to search for a *compromise* that could work for both of them, so that they could stay together in a relationship that they both clearly wanted to be in with each other.

That displays a profound ignorance of the way many asexuals feel about sex. Yes, many asexuals do compromise and can even enjoy sex (tho they don't seek it). There are also those who feel that having sex would be a complete betrayal of their own character akin to kicking a puppy, committing arson, or voting Republican.

Oh, this is so sad. I was really hoping that they could work out a compromise that could work for both of them.
Surely Gerald could suck it up and make love to her on her birthday and on christmas.
I really wanted Gerald and Morgan to stay together and be really happy. :(
