1/10/2001 - Golden Rebecca Budig Moment -- Before I begin the description, I just want to point out to anyone who watches it that I consider this the moment that I fell in love with Greenlee as a character. Rebecca is phenomenal in this clip. The way her eyes look like someone has stabbed her after Leo's revelation is heart breaking. She literally goes through the five stages of grief as Greenlee starts with denial and ends with the acceptance that her parents just are around for her money. Her anger for fear of being made a fool and still ending up alone is amazing, and of course, that sad cry as she falls slowly down her door is the end to a fantastic performance. Rebecca is amazing in this clip, and that is why it's a Golden Rebecca Budig moment for me. After I saw this, I was hooked as a Greenlee fan for life. Rebecca is outstanding as this character, and I love every day that she's back on our screen, even with the writing that sometimes makes me want to pull out my hair.

Dear ole dad has been stealing from Greenlee's trust fund, and Leo lets Greenlee know that. Roger leaves as he knows he's cornered on what he has done. Unfortunately, Greenlee would rather live in the dark on this one and lets Leo know that, as he congratulates himself on a job well done. This is a devastating blow to Greenlee that not only she knows this but Leo does too. That last layer of vulnerability that she tries to hide is finally unmasked, and she has nowhere hide from it. This is obvious when she says to Leo, "I was trying to hold onto the one thread I had left and you ripped that away from, and for the life of me, I don't know why because you're still going to walk out that door and leave me behind." This is key to understanding Greenlee. Every time she loves someone she has to be vulnerable and risk getting hurt, so it makes her put up this wall that only a few can get past. She can't risk the pain of losing someone else in her life. Her anger erupts at what Leo's done (and her parents), and the only way she can get rid of him is take it out on Leo. Devastated and alone, Greenlee lets the tears flow as the agony of feeling abandoned completely becomes a reality for her.

  • Thanks for this great clip. I agree with your intro to the discription. This showed Greens' extreme vulnerability and Rebecca amazing talent as an actress. She was phenominal in this scene, showing the many emotional layers deep inside of Greenlee. Can you believe she didn't even get an Emmy nomination that year??? The Emmy people were on crack that year! LOL!

  • It makes me wonder what scenes were submitted that year for her? I was so excited to share this with everyone because it's precisely why Greenlee is my favorite character of all time. The show needs to put her with actors that challenge her and pull her away from those who bring her down on the show. I'm hoping the new HW takes the time to get to know the character again.

  • I sure hope so too! I like Aiden Turner, but he's not a great actor. And let's face it--he's not even in Rebecca's league! LOL! I don't know what she submitted that year, but that's the same year that Josh won for. And she was as every bit as terrific as he was. Josh even said later on after he won the Emmy that Rebecca was "robbed" that year. He was so right that it's ridiculous. I just don't get how they couldn't have nominated her. She should have won that year & the following as well!

  • I have to admit today AT/RB were great together. I think she brings out the best in him, and he is more like Leo than any other guy she's been with for me.

I think it was due to her management that she wasn't nominated that year. :(

  • You could be right about that but why do you think so?

  • I think sometimes management is not good at picking the right scenes to submit.

  • Poor Greenlee! Both Rebecca and Josh are fantastic here. Rebecca should have won an Emmy! She and Leo were my absolute favorite characters on AMC, in fact, I never watched the show until they came along. Greenlee had such a hard time with love. Even with Leo, as much as he loved her was so cruel during the whole Laura-needs-a-heart-transplant-obligation storyline. But they had a love story that surpasses all others on the show and it's something the show is seriously lacking now.

  • Wow! That was powerful. Great job by Rebecca!!!

  • This is a really good 2 scenes both Josh Duhamel and Rebecca Budig are great here. Her face is just heartbreaking.I love Leo's look on his face when he won't let her father leave "delayed flight" look. Very good scene especially for soap operas which are usually melodramatic, these two make it believable.

  • good grief. this scene still makes me cry 10 years later. RB is an amazing actress!! I was ticked at Leo then (and still am when I watch it again). He could have stayed an proven he was different but still walked out that door dangit! lol

  • classic Greenlee <3

  • Not that I don't agree with you on the rest of it, but she never called him her soulmate (besides for the utter joke that we all know that would be).

  • This is the Greenlee I like to remember and hold onto. Not the pod person who looks like her and uses her name and forgave Ryan and called him her soulmate after he psychologically tortured her by deliberately making her believe she'd been widowed again by faking his death in the same manner in which Leo actually died. Unforgivable what TIIC did to her. She should have teamed up with David to kill Ryan after he did that to her, not come panting back at his feet.

  • Rebecca is AMAZING. It baffles me that she didn't win an emmy for this. Or any of her other performance as Greenlee. The character Greenlee has so many layers, that make her so alive and beautiful. She both thrilling and fulfilling to watch.

  • Greenlee was all kinds of awesome back then. She truly is one of the greatest characters ever created for soap opera. She's also the LAST character ever created by Agnes Nixon. And Greenlee and Leo together? Well, they were just soap opera perfection. They were divine and fascinating and bittersweet and compelling and amazing. I still miss them.

  • I so agree with you! It's sad how much Greenlee has changed. She's a shell of her of her former self, the self who was deeply in love with Leo du Pres!

  • I'd like to take this scene and shove it in Pratt's face. THIS is how you write for Greenlee. I love RB so much but how sad is it that I'm actually counting the days till RB leaves just so I won't have to endure his watered down Ryan worshipping version of the character.
