Flying a single engine turboprop (Piper Jetprop DLX) to Europe in the Summer of 2007. This is a position report made to Gander radio over HF to let them know where we are so they can provide separation services, since it's a no-radar environment.

  • Why are you on HF already at 55W? You should be under radar service until 50W, no?

  • @germb747 I just switched to HF when Gander told me to .... don't know when that exactly was. Next time I'll take notes.

  • Aren't you suppossed to be wearing a dry suit?!?!

  • Regulations require survival suits to be on-board (which they were), but do not stipulate that they be worn during the trip.

  • It is an ICOM 706 MkIIG connected through an antenna tuner to a 23 foot long wire antenna that runs from the top of the windshield to the top of the vertical stabilizer, then to the side of the fuselage, which is where it penetrates the pressure vessel.

  • Yes, I am.
