The L rods can respond to anything under the ground or above, you can look for water, oil , gold, coal, gem stones etc. It all depends on the dowser , what is he concentrating on at the moment.

L rods do respond to any thing below ground if one tunes to it. It is a standard practice to have water oil or coal as witness while dowsing.

Dowsing is a complex phenomenon. Recent understanding shows that the electrical sense and magnetic sense plays an important role in identifying ground water. In addition the subconscious mind also is shown to play an important role.
