WASHINGTON - Protesters chanted, "People not profits -- Medicare for all," while picketing WellPoint Insurance Company Thursday. The demonstration was part of a nine-city protest coordinated by the group "Mobilization for Health Care for All."

WellPoint locked the lobby doors and police stood on guard. The protest was peaceful but pointed -- with participants blaming the insurance companies for current problems and accusing the president of breaking his campaign promise to bring real reform.

And as Congress continues to work toward reform, the demonstrators feel their dream of a single-payer system is slipping further and further away. ...

It's time for us to make changes with our system...

  • ITS all about control, thay want to control you little puppets

  • Lost my Health Care when IBM stole my job and sent it overseas.

American needs to get rid of corporations that send American jobs to other countries.

Medicaid for all, not medicare. Medicaid covers all expenses with no up front cost. Let the top one percent of Americas who have over 80 percent of the wealth pay for it.

  • Now's a GOOD time for protest against those crooked insurance companies and STOP buying it! Save the money u been spending on THOSE THUGS in insurance and you'll more than likey have money LEFT when u go thru an illness!! Anything esle is stupid!

  • I'll never buy a DROP of insurance....yes or NO!

  • This mess is the liberals baby, not the GOP. The GOP wanted individual health savings accounts, state to state competition and tort reform that would help everyone, drive costs down and the ONLY solution! The liberals who have put this mess together are evil and so arrogant to want to push anything trough right now, instead of getting it right! There are constitutional attorney's poised in every state to challenge the constitutionality of this bill once signed anyway.

  • Another point regarding "at least at some basic level"

Ron Paul has talked many times about how he worked in a church clinic years before major government health programs. He talks about how they never turned anyone away. In a rich country I don't see access to basic care being a big problem.

  • America was founded on the idea of individual liberty. Slavery was indeed a gross violation of this. But slavery only requires that we leave people alone. Health care as a right requires the resources of others.

I notice you said "at least at some basic level". You seem to acknowledge here that just being alive does not entitle you to everything modern medicine can provide.

I don't want to let anyone scream in pain, but should we spend 500K to keep a 70 year old alive for another year?

  • It should be - at least at some basic level.

it is constitutional in the USA. ... to provide for the General Welfare of the people. Theodore Roosevelt tried to get National Healthcare back in 1912. it's taking 100 years! Similarly we tried to do away with slavery in the declaration of independece in 1776... but it had to be taken out to get it approved by all 13 colonies. It took 89 more years to get it into our constitution. Greed surely causes people centuries of suffering- pure evil.

  • Senate Health Care plan is bad because it caps insurance companies profits at 15% - but there is no cap on how much they can make. They'll SPEND your tax dollard to make more profits A government Medicare option would be far cheaper than guaranteeing the Huge Insurance cartel 15% profits of limitless spending. The other option is just to let people suffer, and die. The difference not between Progressives and Conservatives, that's the difference between good and evil.

  • @dantheleo

Don't be ignorant - it's not about "liberals" attacking "liberals". Both the DNC and GOP favor huge corporations - they are bought and paid for by them. That is UNAMERICAN. Monopolies and Cartets are not the same thing as a free market capitialism. What we have is Corruption to the degree that the DNC and GOP are all bought and paid for by Corporatists. What you are seeing is PROGRESSIVES attacking CORPORATISTS.
