Coach Robb (coachrobb.com) illustrates some drills that you need to implement into your swim workout to avoid your hips dropping in between every stroke. Once you implement these drills, you will avoid the sinking hips syndrome and improve your efficiency in the water immediately (as illustrated by a lower stroke count with less effort).

To order the second edition of his popular swim workout manual, please send an email to robb3@earthlink.net and put in promo code YTV1A in the subject line to save 50% off the normal price of $49.00 for this manual. This manual will instruct you on how to swim with little effort, minimize your risk of injury and provide you specific workouts to help you achieve your personal training goals - from weight loss & fitness to fast swimming for open water swimming in a triathlon.

  • Please copy and paste into your search box within Youtube: Coach Robb: Pull Buoy + Paddles. Youtube will not allow me to put the direct link. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you for watching.

  • Please refer to my Swimming 101 Series and implement those skills/drills initially. As you build off of those foundational concepts, the remaining drills will be easier to apply. If you have any questions or need anything clarified, please feel free to email me.

  • Thank you for providing your feedback/experience! The key to all drills is to complete them slowly so that you establish the "muscle memory" so that you maintain this skill while you are swimming with greater effort and for longer durations. I am excited you are seeing the results of your efforts! More videos are in the process of being finalized, so stay tuned!

  • Please try the tennis ball under the chin drill. This works really well seetting up your body in an ideal position while still being able to breathe. Please keep me posted on your progress!

    -Coach Robb

  • Place a tennis ball under your chin and swim down the lane; this will keep your head in a neutral position along with "force" you to rotate to breathe (if you pick your head up to breathe, the ball will drop and remind you!). It may sound odd, but think about keeping your head neutral, pressure on your chest (moving to each arm pit as you rotate) and strive to be smooth with each stroke. Please let me know how this works for you!

  • Mentally focus on "pressing" your chest towards the bottome of the pool. A trick to try is swimming down the lane with a kick board under your chest. Don't let it slip out from under you when you swim - you will "feel" the pressure you are looking to create. Please keep me posted if your hips continue to sink.

  • I found it! "Pull Buoy" Could you tell me how this is used?

  • Coach Robb,

What is the the word you are using or name of the blue and white styrofoam item that is used to artificially pull up the hips? I am looking all over for this item but cannot find it. I am hearing "bulbolly". Please advise, thank you!
