PLAYLIST travels to Mexico, home to some of the most exciting and cutting edge Latin music where fusion is just a way of life. Mexican Institute of Sound is part of a growing electronica movement a collision of folk and more traditional music with modern sounds. With a sound that is difficult to qualify, Polka Madre is a sonic reflection of the melting pot that is Mexico City, but their often slow, melancholic songs sit well with a population who enjoy the darker side of life. One act pushing boundaries, Nortec Collective is a group of producers who create and perform a style of music called Nortec a fusion of norteno music and techno. And for 60 Tigres, the fusion comes from the individual tastes of its members and the issues of drug trafficking, over population, pollution, unemployment and the countrys relationship with the USA all find a place in their music.
